  15. <p>     QUIT. PETER UEBERROTH, 55, former baseball commissioner and
  16. impresario of the 1984 L.A. Olympics; as co-chairman of Rebuild
  17. L.A., the organization that was created after last May's riots
  18. to restore Los Angeles' devastated inner-city neighborhoods.
  19. "They gave me the best nonpaid job in America," he said. "But
  20. it's time for a change." Ueberroth spent much of his year on
  21. the job answering charges that RLA was slow in converting $450
  22. million in private pledges into jobs for local residents and
  23. assistance for small business. This year RLA will focus on small-business
  24. development. "We see Year 2 as being more productive than Year
  25. 1," Ueberroth insisted last week.
