- <p> QUIT. PETER UEBERROTH, 55, former baseball commissioner and
- impresario of the 1984 L.A. Olympics; as co-chairman of Rebuild
- L.A., the organization that was created after last May's riots
- to restore Los Angeles' devastated inner-city neighborhoods.
- "They gave me the best nonpaid job in America," he said. "But
- it's time for a change." Ueberroth spent much of his year on
- the job answering charges that RLA was slow in converting $450
- million in private pledges into jobs for local residents and
- assistance for small business. This year RLA will focus on small-business
- development. "We see Year 2 as being more productive than Year
- 1," Ueberroth insisted last week.
